Having traveled through and fallen in love with northern New Mexico, Marty became aware in
1960 of an opening for a veterinarian in Los Alamos. The Holland family arrived in June, but
while Marty and Phyllis raised their family, Ann, Caroline, and Gregory, Los Alamos National
Laboratory came calling. Marty worked at LANL from 1966 until 1991.
After serving two terms
as municipal judge from 1987-1994, Marty became a member of the Los Alamos Council on
Alcoholism. He was also chair of the Los Alamos County Council in 1974 and 1976. Marty has
served for nine years, three times as president, on the Retirement Community Board which oversees
Sombrillo and Aspen Ridge. He helped develop and build Aspen Ridge, and he said, "I am very
proud of my role in that endeavor."
Marty and Phyllis celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
on April 18, 2009.
