Living Treasures of Los Alamos
Aaron Sampson Goldman
Aaron Sampson Goldman

Aaron Goldman was involved in prison ministry when a deadly riot broke out at the New Mexico State Penitentiary in February, 1980. He started the Rockland Park Running Club at the penitentiary on behalf of the inmates and received the prestigious Jefferson Award in 1983 in recognition of his efforts.

Aaron first came to Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1957 and returned to the Lab in 1960 while pursuing his Ph.D. He met Peggy Hopkins on the Pajarito Mountain ski slopes and they were married in Los Alamos on September 13, 1963. Aaron and Peggy's daughter, Kathy, was born in Los Alamos and sons Bill and Keith were born in Spokane, Washington.

A fanatic runner who still competes in ultras, Aaron celebrated his 50th birthday by running 50 miles. In 1986, he ran 101 miles in 24 hours for a mission trip fund-raiser. For 10 years Aaron has worked with LA Cares, a nondenominational organization established to help needy local residents, and is currently serving as president.

Additional biographical material can be found in the Los Alamos Monitor of April 11, 2004.
