Living Treasures of Los Alamos

David Browning 'Dave' Thomson

Dedicated to promoting effective arms control, Dave co-organized and was the first president of the Los Alamos Committee on Arms Control and International Security in 1986. Since his retirement in 1990 from Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he worked in neutron physics, plasma physics, explosive-driven high magnetic field systems and atomic processes, a major priority for Dave has been arms control. "A Guide to Nuclear Arms Control Treaties" was written by Dave in 1999 and is a compilation of the studies that he completed up to 1999. Dave went to work at Gamma Building near Ashley Pond in September 1951.

At a church group picnic in the summer of 1953 he met Patricia "Ann" Turney. Dave and Ann were married in Fort Worth, Texas on December 27, 1953. They raised their three children, Debra, Barbara and David II in Los Alamos. A member of the Los Alamos County Transportation Task Force in 1973-74, Dave later helped bring public transportation to Los Alamos. In the early 1960s, Dave worked to obtain a charter for Los Alamos, serving on the first charter commission.
