Don MacMillan arrived in Los Alamos on May 14, 1944. Although he retired in 1984, he still spends
a few hours each week at his lab office. "I think that by now I must be close to being the oldest
person working for ESA Division," he said.
Don and his wife, Martha, raised their three children, Dan, Elizabeth, and the late Alan, in Los
Alamos.
President of the early Los Alamos Skating Club, Don also started a local chapter of the United
Skates Figure Skating Association. When the Los Alamos Skating Association formed, Don soon
became secretary and served in that position until Los Alamos County took over operation of the rink.
Before Los Alamos became a county, Don was chairman of the Town Council, and was a member of the
Charter Commission.
Instrumental in the development of the Peach Street and Sycamore Street group homes, Don has spent
decades on issues affecting the developmentally disabled.
Additional biographical material can be found in the Los Alamos Monitor of September 15, 2002.
