When Glenn Rigg wrote a national organization to request the calls for square dancing on
horseback, he received no response. He reckoned he could figure it out, and, said Glenn,
"We had the Junior Posse square dancing on horseback at all the rodeos," a Los Alamos
tradition begun by Glenn, which still enjoys tremendous popularity during the Los Alamos
County Fair and Rodeo. Folks of all ages whiled away the evenings square dancing with the
Oldtimers while Glenn called the squares. Glenn was also one of 10 men who built the Posse
Shack, working nights and weekends.
An oil painter, leather tooler, and stained glass artist, Glenn's painting of Otowi Bridge,
completed after age 70, was recently on display at the Governor's Gallery. His stained glass
can be seen locally at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center, the Baptist Church, the United
Church, and Sombrillo Nursing Facility.
Glenn and Pat Rigg celebrated their 67th anniversary on September 9, 2001. Their two
children, Kay Rigg and Karen Leach, were raised in Los Alamos.
