Jean "Jeanie" Nereson was told that she would be teaching in Los Alamos "for the duration".
Although she was only expected to teach on the Hill until World War II ended, "I got married
to Norris, I loved it here and I'm glad I stayed", said Jeanie, who taught for the Los Alamos
Public Schools for fifty years.
Named the Los Alamos Teacher of the Year in 1995, Jean taught more than 1800 students. She
travelled the globe. returning with globes and artifacts, tools she used to made the cultures
and geography of the world's people come alive to her students.
From astronomers to the late renowned potter, Maria of San Ildefonso Pueblo, Jeanie's students
learned from hands-on exploration.
Additional biographical material can be found in the Los Alamos Monitor of September 19, 1999.
