Marguerite Elizabeth Doak was born in 1910 and grew up in Oregon. Marge and Raemer Edgar "Schreib"
Schreiber were married in 1933. They came to Los Alamos in 1943 with their daughter Paula after
Schrieb received his PhD. from Purdue University. Their second child Sara was born in 1944.
Marge became a member of the school board and helped hire teachers and the first Superintendent of
Schools. She became President of the Mesa Club, the only women’s organization on the Hill during the
war years. In 1946 the League of Women Voters was formed and Marge joined. She also became a member
of the school board.
When the Los Alamos Charter Commission was created, Marge was appointed in 1949. "We decided
that a city/county government was what we should have here," she said.
A founder of the Girl Scouts in Los Alamos, Marge also joined the newly formed Los Alamos Garden Club.
When Marge and Schreib returned to Los Alamos in the late 1960's after living in Pajarito Village
near Espanola, they both got involved with the establishment of the Sombrillo Nursing and
