Living Treasures of Los Alamos
Winifred Amsden
Winifred Amsden

Winifred Amsden and her late husband Theodore "Ted" moved to Pojoaque in the mid-1930's. A resident of Los Alamos since 1969, Winifred volunteered numerous hours in helping to establish Sombrillo Nursing Facility.

She was appointed to the Agency on Aging; taught "55 Alive", a driving skills course for aging drivers; arranged transportation for senior citizens; and organized a Medicare/Medicaid assistance program to help people file claims.

Her favorite hobby is philately (stamp collecting). She is a postal historian whose entries have won many awards. She also enjoys duplicate bridge and The Great Books group.

Her generous philanthropic efforts have benefited all ages of our community in immeasurable ways.

Additional biographical material can be found in the Los Alamos Monitor of April 8, 1999.
